Privacy Policy
PointCrunch is a static website. We built it to collect as little about you as possible, and this page explains exactly what that means. It is written to comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Quebec's Law 25.
What we collect
Only what you send us. The Site has no accounts, no sign-up, no comments, no newsletter and no payment. The one place you can type is the contact form, and it is optional.
Messages to us. If you email us or use the contact form, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply. Form messages are checked for spam by Cloudflare Turnstile and delivered to our inbox by Cloudflare Email Routing; the website itself does not store them. We keep the email in our inbox as correspondence and delete it on request. We never add you to a list or share your message.
Server logs. The Site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes technical information needed to deliver pages to you, such as your IP address, browser type, the pages requested and the time of the request, and may retain it briefly for security and performance. That processing is governed by Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not receive or store these logs ourselves.
Usage analytics (Google Analytics 4). We use Google Analytics to understand which posts people read, how they found the Site and roughly where in the world readers are. For each visit Google Analytics receives: the pages you view, how far down a page you scroll, which outbound links you click, the site that referred you, your browser and device type, your approximate location at the city level, and a truncated IP address (Google does not log or store full IP addresses in GA4). It does not receive your name, email or anything you type into the contact form.
We have configured the property as narrowly as Google allows: Google Signals is off, ads personalization is disabled for every region, user-provided data collection is off, the property is not linked to any Google Ads account, and event data is kept for 14 months, after which it is deleted. Reports are aggregated: we look at totals, not individual visitors. The data is processed on Google's servers, which may be located outside Canada. Google's own use of it is described in How Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can opt out entirely with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking the googletagmanager.com domain; the Site works identically either way.
No advertising trackers. We do not run advertising pixels, remarketing tags, social-media widgets or any other third-party tracking script.
Cookies
Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_ followed by our property ID) that hold a random identifier so it can tell a returning visitor from a new one. They contain no personal information and expire after two years. Nothing on the Site sets advertising or personalization cookies. Cloudflare may set strictly necessary cookies for security purposes (for example to distinguish humans from bots during an attack). Your browser's local storage is used only if a future tool, such as a rewards calculator, needs to remember what you typed; in that case the data stays in your browser and is never sent to us.
Fonts
Web fonts are bundled with the Site and served from the same host. No requests are made to Google Fonts or other font providers when you load a page.
Links to other sites
Posts link to banks' and card issuers' websites so you can verify offers. Once you leave the Site, the destination's privacy policy applies. We have no affiliate relationships, so no identifier about you is passed to those sites by us.
Children
The Site is general-audience content about credit cards and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Your rights
Apart from emails you choose to send us, we hold no personal information about visitors ourselves; the analytics data described above sits in Google Analytics in aggregated form and is retained for 14 months. If you believe we hold information about you, or you have a privacy question or complaint, contact us at hello@pointcrunch.ca and we will respond within 30 days. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Changes
If our practices change, for example if we add a newsletter, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
