How to apply for the CIBC Aeroplan Visa

Check first

  • One Aeroplan bonus per card type: not if you've already had a welcome bonus on an Aeroplan card of the same type, from CIBC or another bank
  • No bonus on a switch: transfers and product changes from other CIBC cards don't qualify
  1. Check you qualify No minimum income listed. You need to live in Canada and be the age of majority in your province.
  2. Have this ready Your address and how long you've lived there, your employer and yearly income, and your monthly rent or mortgage. Your SIN is optional for a credit card; you can leave it blank.
  3. Expect a credit check Applying adds a hard inquiry to your credit report, which lowers your score a little for a few months. Space applications about 90 days apart.
  4. Apply on CIBC's own site Apply online from the bank's product page, where the offer above is shown. This isn't an affiliate link: we earn nothing if you apply.Apply on CIBC's site →
  5. After you're approved Put the spending needed for the welcome offer on the card before the deadline, and pay the full balance every month.

How to use it

  • Groceries, gas, EV charging: fine here at 1 point per $1
  • Air Canada flights and vacations: book directly with Air Canada for 1 point per $1
  • Everything else: use another card. This one pays 1 point per $1.50
  • Downgrading from a CIBC Aeroplan fee card: move here to keep your points from expiring
  • From January 12, 2027: 15% fewer points on eligible Air Canada flight rewards (replaces "preferred pricing")
  • Example: $800/month groceries + $250/month gas + $550/month dining and bills = 17,000 points a year, about $340 in flights at ~2¢ a point (our estimate)

Neo World Elite Mastercard card

Neo World Elite Mastercard

  • Neo World Elite Mastercard: groceries, gas / ev, dining & restaurants, bills & subscriptions, transit, drugstore / pharmacy, entertainment, everything else

If your stores take Amex: Scotiabank Gold Amex for groceries, gas / ev, dining & restaurants, bills & subscriptions, transit, drugstore / pharmacy, entertainment, everything else makes it $888 a year. Costco and Loblaw-banner grocers don't take Amex.
