How to apply for the CIBC Aventura Gold Visa
Check first
- Not if you opened, transferred or cancelled another Aventura card in the last 12 months: no welcome offer
- No bonus on a switch: transfers and product changes from other CIBC cards don't qualify
- Check you qualify No minimum income listed. You need to live in Canada and be the age of majority in your province.
- Have this ready Your address and how long you've lived there, your employer and yearly income, and your monthly rent or mortgage. Your SIN is optional for a credit card; you can leave it blank.
- Expect a credit check Applying adds a hard inquiry to your credit report, which lowers your score a little for a few months. Space applications about 90 days apart.
- Apply on CIBC's own site Apply online from the bank's product page, where the offer above is shown. This isn't an affiliate link: we earn nothing if you apply.Apply on CIBC's site →
- After you're approved Put the spending needed for the welcome offer on the card before the deadline, and pay the full balance every month.
How to use it
- Pick one: if you earn $60,000 (or $100,000 household), the Aventura Visa Infinite has the same offer and more perks. You cannot get both offers within 12 months
- First 4 statements: spend $5,000 for all 60,000 points (15,000 first purchase + 30,000 at $3,000 + 15,000 at $5,000)
- Travel booked at the CIBC Rewards Centre: 2 points per $1
- Groceries, gas, EV charging, drug stores: 1.5 points per $1
- Everything else: use a card that pays more than 1 point per $1
- Redeem: flights on the Aventura chart, 10,000–20,000 points for a North America flight up to $400
- Example: $800/month groceries + $250/month gas + $550/month dining and bills = 25,500 points a year, about $320 at ~1.25¢ a point (our estimate)
